Archive for October 2019Duke's Advice On What to Do After You Buy a Used Vehicle in FranklinPosted October 27, 2019 10:30 AM
Duke here and what a beautiful day it is! So you've bought a used vehicle in the Franklin area. Do you know what you're getting? It is hard to know what you're getting because people in the Franklin area sell vehicles for different reasons. Think about why you've sold vehicles. Did you just want something new or were there problems that you wanted to run away from? Maybe it was a little of both. So today I will bark to you about "Did you buy a used car, NOW WHAT????" Let's unveil the possibilities. I leave you with funny used car joke, A guy looking in the classified for a used car...sees a new Corvette listed for $50. Thinking it's a misprint, he decides to go check it out anyway. Arriving at the sellers residence, it's a dream car, not a scratch on it and it runs great.
"Ma'am, I want to buy this car. But the paper said it was only $50, what do you really want for it?" "That's right, $50 and it's yours!" "Excuse me for being nosy, ma'am, but why are you selling it so cheap? Is it stolen or something?" "No, it's my husbands car. He ran off with his young secretary last month, and two days ago I got a telegram from him saying to sell the Corvette and send him the money!" DUKE
Franklin Auto Service Maintaining Your Diesel in FranklinPosted October 20, 2019 12:27 PMDiesel engines have been used extensively in Europe and Asia for many years. They haven't been as common in the Franklin area because of the high sulfur content in our diesel fuel. But the government is now mandating lower sulfur content and, as a result, we are going to see more Franklin diesel-fueled vehicles on the road, especially in passenger cars and SUV's. Franklin Auto Service Getting New Tires in Franklin?Posted October 13, 2019 10:18 AMThere are so many tire choices in the Franklin area that selecting the right one can be a bit overwhelming for drivers. And even though it's kind of fun to have new tires on your vehicle, they're a significant investment for most Franklin area folks so you want do it right. Franklin Auto Service Severe Service RequirementsPosted October 6, 2019 12:15 PMA lot of Franklin drivers have asked whether or not they should use their severe service maintenance schedule, which is listed in their vehicle's owner's manual. It can be somewhat confusing, so we decided to consult an expert. Cricket Killingsworth is from QMI/Heartland, a manufacturer of automotive products and fluids. She's been in the automotive business for over 30 years and is a speaker, a trainer and a writer. Cricket says there's so much confusion on this topic because, "Most owner's manuals actually have two maintenance schedules. Sometimes these are called 'regular service' and 'severe service.' Sometimes they're simply called Schedule 1 and Schedule 2. A severe service schedule recommends that things like an oil change, air filter replacement and transmission service be done more often: either in fewer miles or in less time."
It's common sense for Franklin drivers: Just a few minutes at higher speeds allows the moisture in the oil to evaporate. Very short trips, or trips of less than 10 miles when it's very cold, don't allow the engine to heat up enough to get rid of the water. And water in the oil leads to damaging sludge. Also, towing and heavy loads raise operating temperatures and cause fluids to break down faster. Dusty and muddy driving around Franklin means that more dirt will get past the air filter to contaminate the fuel system and engine oil. The bottom line is that you need to decide for yourself if the regular or severe service schedule is right for you, based on your driving habits. Look at your owner's manual or talk with your Franklin Auto Service service advisor who can help you know which schedule to follow. Ask us for help evaluating your driving and service needs. Stopped into Franklin Auto Repair while traveling through Marietta with an issue on my catalytic converter. Dan, Elvin, and Khan got me taken care of and back on the road fast. What I appreciated most was that Dan was upfront from the beginning. He explained the best-case, middle-case, and worst-case scenarios so I knew what I was dealing with before any work started. No surprises, no guessing, and no unrealistic promises. Just straight answers. Elvin and Khan took a look at it, put their heads together, and got the issue fixed. They worked efficiently, the repair was done right, and they got me back on the road a lot quicker than I expected. As someone passing through town, it's easy to worry about getting stuck somewhere or being told you need a bunch of extra work. That wasn't the case here. They identified the problem, fixed it, and got me moving again. Good people, solid work, and a straightforward experience. I'd recommend them to anyone needing automotive work in the Marietta area.
